A Magistrates’ Court in Kano has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, in a correctional centre over allegations that she cut off her boyfriend’s manhood during a violent altercation.
The court issued the remand order on Friday after Maimuna was arraigned on allegations linked to the incident. The prosecution informed the court that the matter is under investigation and requested that the defendant be remanded pending further proceedings.
According to the prosecution, the alleged attack left the victim with severe injuries and required urgent medical attention. The incident has attracted widespread public attention across Kano due to its shocking nature.
The presiding magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody and adjourned the case to allow the police to conclude their investigation and continue the legal process.
The case is expected to return to court on the adjourned date, where further proceedings will determine the next stage of the trial. Under Nigerian law, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
