The Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara (SOKEZA) indigenes resident in Borno State, have declared their support for Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election, assuring that members of the association would return to Kebbi to cast their votes for him.
They gave the assurance at a meeting between the Executive Council Members of the Association and the media team of the Governor led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, in Maiduguri on Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of SOKEZA, the welfare association Legal Adviser of the Association, Barrister Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, said their support for Governor Nasir Idris was rooted in his purposeful and result oriented leadership.
He expressed the satisfaction of the Association with the unprecedented successes and achievements of the Governor.
He noted that the Association was committed to peace, unity and the progress of its members wherever they reside. He said SOKEZA members in Borno had enjoyed peaceful coexistence and maintained cordial relations with their host communities, stressing that peace remained central to the values of the people of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.
Barrister Aliyu said the Association was always ready to engage with the Kebbi State Government on issues concerning the welfare and development of its members, adding that they would love to engage with the Kebbi state government to discuss areas where they could contribute to the development of Kebbi State. He said the Association fully supported the development programmes and initiatives of the Governor and was prepared to assist in any capacity.
He further assured that SOKEZA members across different states remained connected to their communities and would return home during the 2027 election to exercise their franchise. He highlighted that thousands of their members returned home during the voter registration exercise to register for the purpose of exercising their civic duties at home.
He said the Association had resolved to support Governor Idris, Kauran Gwandu, in the election, expressing confidence that the Governor’s development efforts deserved to be sustained.
The Legal Adviser prayed for Allah’s continued guidance and protection for the Association, its members and the leadership of Kebbi State under Dr Nasir Idris.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, said the purpose of the engagement was to strengthen the relationship between the Kebbi State Government and Kebbi indigenes residing outside the state.
He said such interactions were important for understanding the needs of Kebbi people in different parts of the country, strengthening unity and ensuring that their concerns were properly communicated to the government.
The Commissioner urged the Association to sustain its support for peace, unity and the development of Kebbi State, assuring them of the government’s commitment to maintaining close relations with Kebbi indigenes wherever they reside.
He commended SOKEZA members for their continued solidarity and called on them to continue praying for and supporting the leadership of the state.
He urged them to continue to live in peace with their host communities, be law abiding and productive in their day to day activities.
