An 87-year-old man has been remanded in a correctional facility in Yola after he allegedly attacked a judge with a machete during a court session in Adamawa State.

The incident occurred at the Mayo-Ine Area Court in Fufore Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Dahiru Garba from Korawa village in Mayo-Ine district, was said to have used a machete to attack the presiding judge, Dauda Hamman, while proceedings were ongoing.
According to court records, the attack happened during the hearing of a case involving Dahiru Garba and another individual, Ismail Yusuf. Witnesses told police that the elderly man suddenly confronted the judge during the session.
Dahiru was arrested at the scene and later arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Yola on Monday. During his appearance, he told the court that he acted under influence and expressed deep regret over his actions.
The court ordered that he be held at a correctional center in Yola pending further proceedings. He is facing charges of causing grievous hurt, an offense contrary to Section 219 of the Adamawa State Penal Code of 2018.
ASP Zakka Musa, who presented the case for the prosecution, told the court that the matter had been transferred from the Fufore Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 4, 2026. He also tendered the First Information Report as evidence.
In the report, Judge Dauda Hamman stated that he reported the incident at the Mayo-Ine Police Station on August 31, 2026. He alleged that Dahiru, who was a party in the case before him, attacked him with a machete while he was presiding over the matter filed by Ismail Yusuf, inflicting serious injuries.
After the charges were read and interpreted to him, Dahiru Garba pleaded guilty. The court has adjourned the matter for further hearing, while authorities continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
