Reports circulating on social media claiming that former Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has died are false, according to his close associates.
Alhaji Salisu Barau, a close associate of the former governor, dismissed the reports on Friday, describing them as baseless and urging members of the public to disregard the information.
Speaking through telephone, Barau said Yuguda was alive and in good health.
“It is a lie; Mallam Isa Yuguda is in good health,” he said.
Another close associate and former aide to Yuguda, Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak, also denied the report, describing it as false information. The two associates did not disclose the source of the social media reports or how the rumour started.
Yuguda, born on June 15, 1956, is a former governor of Bauchi State who served two terms from May 2007 to May 2015. He was initially elected on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before moving to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2009.
Available biographical records also confirm that he was re-elected in 2011.
Before becoming governor, Yuguda served in the Federal Government, including as Minister of State for Transport before becoming Minister of Aviation from May 2003 to June 2005. He also had a background in banking, having held senior management positions in Nigerian financial institutions.
More recently, Yuguda has remained active in national affairs. Reports published in 2025 and 2026 identified him as the North-East Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, with the role involving coordination of the initiative’s activities across the region.
In August 2026, Yuguda also appointed Salisu Ahmad Barau as his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, according to a report published at the time.
The appointment further indicates that Yuguda remained active in public and political engagements in the period preceding the latest death rumour.
The latest claims about his alleged death therefore remain unsubstantiated, while people identified as close to the former governor have expressly stated that he is alive and in good health.
