…..Push For Speedy Completion Of Mambila Hydropower Commend Tinubu On Rail, Kolmani Oil Projects, Approve Regional Air Shuttle, CNG Stations
*Fix Next Meeting For Dec. 18 In Gombe
The North-East Governors’ Forum, NEGF, says it has transformed power supply from a state-by-state problem to a shared regional energy agenda, urging member states to leverage the new Electricity Act and abundant sunshine to expand solar and mini-grids.
The position was contained in an 11-point communiqué issued on Saturday at the end of its 13th meeting in Maiduguri, signed by its Chairman, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno, and read by Vice Chairman, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa.
The Forum noted that the Dadinkowa hydropower plant in Gombe now feeds the national grid as a result of joint efforts, but expressed concern over the delay in the Mambila hydropower project in Taraba, urging the Federal Government to use the recent arbitration ruling that cleared legal encumbrances to fast-track its completion.
On infrastructure and transportation, the governors resolved to partner with Green Ville Energy to establish more CNG and LNG stations, thanked the Federal Government for 10,000 electric tricycles, 10 electric buses and 300 electric taxis to be launched this month, and agreed to set up a North-East regional air shuttle to ease movement.
The Forum commended President Bola Tinubu for attention to the Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Maiduguri rail corridor, the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri highway and Kolmani oil exploration, while urging resumption of exploration in Magumeri and Gubio LGAs of Borno, and reiterated commitment to youth empowerment, security and fighting deforestation.
