*Lagos Council Chair Under Fire For Spending N492 Million In 72 Hours Before Leaving Office*

By Our reporter
A former Local Government Chairman in Lagos State has been accused of leaving only ₦20 million in the council’s coffers after receiving ₦512 million from the Federation Account just three days before her tenure ended.
The ₦492 million was allegedly spent within 72 hours, with ₦1 million each given to seven councillors and millions more to supervisory councillors as parting gifts.
*Allegations of Mismanagement:*
– _Diversion of Funds_: The report alleges a pattern of looting and diversion of monthly Joint Allocation Committee (JAC) funds.
– _Luxury Properties_: A newly-built multi-million-naira hotel in Osogbo, Osun State, and a property in Magodo GRA Phase 2, Lagos, are linked to the former council boss.
– _Corruption_: Local Government staff allegedly buy postings for ₦5m-₦20m, with monthly premiums of ₦2.5m for “Category A” LGAs.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been urged to initiate immediate audits of all LGAs and LCDAs, recover misappropriated funds, and sanction indicted officials.
