Three vigilantes from Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State have reportedly been killed by suspected bandits while returning from Agwara in Niger State.
The victims were identified as Abubakar Mai Nera, the vigilante commander in Saminaka, Tanko Sarki and Amadu Saminaka, all from Saminaka and Bakinturu communities.
According to local sources, they were ambushed around Kasabo, Binuwa and Mago communities, across the River Kwara, along the Kebbi-Niger border.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged the attackers set the victims ablaze after killing them, adding that their bodies had not been recovered as search teams continued efforts.
The incident has heightened concern among border communities. Kebbi State Police PRO, SP Bashir Usman, said he was unaware of the incident and could not confirm it as it occurred in Niger State, though he acknowledged the victims were from Kebbi.
