Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has thrown his weight behind Lieutenant A.M. Yarima, the naval officer who clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land in Abuja. Badaru praised Yarima’s professionalism and vowed to protect him, saying, “We will always protect our officer. He has done well. We won’t allow anything to happen to him” .
The confrontation occurred when Wike attempted to access the land, allegedly owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, but was blocked by Yarima, who cited lawful orders from his superiors. The incident sparked public debate, with many Nigerians commending Yarima’s calmness and discipline.
Badaru’s former, Governor of Jigsawa, however supported Leut. Yarima underscores the military’s commitment to protecting its officers while performing lawful duties.
