Muktar Umar Yarima, the NNPP representative for Tarauni Federal Constituency in Kano, has been sacked by the National and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal ruled that Yarima was not qualified to contest the election due to a forged primary school certificate.
The tribunal’s decision was based on several findings, including:
- Forged Certificate: Hausawa Primary School disowned the certificate tendered by Yarima.
- Inconsistent Names: Yarima used different names on his international passports (Umar Mukhtar Zakari) and primary school certificate (Umar Mukhtar).
- Invalid Defence: Yarima’s explanation of a name change in 2022 was rejected, as he had used multiple names on his passports since 2009.
The tribunal has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Yarima’s certificate of return, effectively declaring the NNPP as having no candidate in the election.
