Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has called on the federal government to take urgent and decisive action following the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, saying the rising insecurity demands immediate national attention.
General Uba, the commander of the 25 Brigade, was ambushed and seized by ISWAP fighters near Wajiroko village in Borno State. The terror group later released a video claiming they had executed him. Although the military initially dismissed reports of his capture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu eventually confirmed the officer’s death, praising him as one of the nation’s fallen heroes.
Ndume urged authorities to intensify operations to recover the officer’s remains, insisting that closure is essential for the military, the officer’s family, and Nigerians who continue to bear the weight of the insurgency.
Turning to the recent mass abduction in Kebbi, the lawmaker demanded swift action to rescue the 25 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive School, Maga. He said that bringing the children home—“dead or alive”—should be a top priority for the government, given the emotional and psychological trauma the incident has caused.
He cautioned that insecurity across the North-East and North-West is spiraling, with banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings compounding the nation’s challenges. According to him, only a coordinated approach among security agencies can reverse the trend.
Ndume also commended the courage of security personnel battling on multiple fronts and prayed for divine support in restoring peace to affected communities.
In separate reactions, the Nigeria Labour Congress insisted the federal government must act more decisively to safeguard Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren. Vice President Kashim Shettima similarly assured families of the abducted students that the government would “deploy every instrument of state power” to rescue them.
Public commentators such as Valentine Ozigbo have also urged President Tinubu to take full responsibility for addressing the worsening security situation nationwide.
