The Kano State High Court No. 5, presided over by Justice Aisha Mahmud has ordered the Commander of the Bukabu Army barracks to immediately produce one of his personnel, Tunde Momodu, who is standing trial for the alleged killing of an official of Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Yahaya Idris Ismail, in Kano.
At Tuesday’s court sitting, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, informed the court that Momodu has never appeared before the court since the commencement of the trial, despite the regular appearance of the other co-accused.
Momodu, alongside Yakubu Abdulsalam and Sagiru Yusif Bichi, is facing charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of April 24, 2025, when the suspects were escorting a truck.
Reports said the deceased, who was a KAROTA official, boarded the truck in the course of his duty when Momodu allegedly stabbed him and his body was later dumped inside a gutter.
Justice Mahmud emphasised the need for accountability, directing the military authorities to ensure the soldier’s presence.
“The Commander of Bukabu Barracks is hereby ordered to produce the first defendant before this court without further delay,” she ruled.
