The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 43-year-old Amadin Williams for the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas.
Police Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem stated on Sunday that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
According to sources, the deceased had returned from abroad with his family to celebrate Christmas when he was reportedly attacked and killed at a housewarming party in Oben Community.
“I can confirm that Eghosa Osas, aged 43, was killed by his childhood friend, Amadin Williams, for reasons yet to be ascertained,” the source said. “The late Eghosa had returned from abroad to spend Christmas with his family. He was attacked and killed during the celebration.”
Ikoedem explained that the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother. She noted that Eghosa had gone to relieve himself when the suspect allegedly cornered him and inflicted a machete cut to his neck, which ultimately claimed his life.
“The report of Eghosa’s murder is true, and the suspect, Amadin Williams, believed to be his childhood friend, is in custody. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” she added.
In a related development, The Northern Star Online reported last week that the Edo State police arrested no fewer than 821 suspects for various offences in 2025.
