The journey of million miles began steps, Senator Aliyu Magakarda Wammakko with 20 years cognite experience in political leadership has reshape the political landscape of Sokoto State, defeating opponent and commanding influence in the Sokoto Caliphate.
During his tenure as Deputy governor under Ex-governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, Wammakko faces numerous challenges led to his defection from All Nigerian Progressive Party (ANPP) to People Democratic Party (PDP). Wamakko victory marked a turning point in the state’s political dynamics. His tenure as governor was characterized by transformative projects that significantly improved the lives of the common people in the society. Notable his *Zakat & Endowment programs, Seasonal Ramadan Feeding Initiative* positively impacted many Sokoto residents.
Despite, the limited resources, Wammakko achieved remarkable feats including the establishment of *Sokoto State Owned University ,* which adheres to high educational standards. He also constructed and upgrade primary healthcares facilities across the state, turning some into general hospitals, one of his notably infrastructural achievements was the construction of flyover linking CBN roundabout which enhanced the city traffic flow and added value to ancient seat of the Caliphate.
Wamakko leadership extended beyond infrastructure, he leveraged Sokoto meager resources to beautify the state, attracting foreign investors and renovating key- Hospital facilities, his effort earned praise from political analyst’s and Public Affairs Commentator Late Malam Suleiman Yakubu, a former Editor at Freedom Radio once remarked that “anyone fighting Wammakko is fighting destiny itself”.
Today, Wammakko remain a political godfather in Sokoto Caliphate. His influence was instrumental in the election of Governor Ahmed Aliyu(Dr ) and the appointment of Maigari Dingyadi as Minister for Labour & Empowerment and Barr. Bello Goronyo as Works Minister of State.
In conclusion, Wammakko legacy as a transformative Leader and political strategics continue to shape Sokoto political landscape. His foresight and dedication have solidified his place as one of the most impactful leader in the state history.
