Shekarau’s stance is that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf isn’t committing “betrayal” by moving to the APC – he’s simply following the same political path that his former mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, took years ago.
In a viral audio clip, Shekarau reminded everyone that Kwankwaso left the PDP for the APC while still serving as governor and kept his seat, so Yusuf’s decision to “take the NNPP seat to the APC” is just a repeat of that precedent.
He also argued that political realignments are personal choices driven by circumstances, not acts of disloyalty, and that leaders should be allowed to consult their supporters before making such moves.
According to Shekarau, the defection is more about continuity and personal political calculus than a breach of trust.
What do you think about how the NNPP’s other leaders are reacting to this?
