Coup: Buhari Almost Cried When Recalling How Idiagbon Was Willing To Be Shot Along With Him -Gambari
Former Chief of Staff to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari, has said that during their time in office from 1983 to 1985, Buhari frequently discussed Vice Admiral Tunde Idiagbon’s devotion to him.
During an interview with Channels Television, Gambari said that Buhari informed him that Idiagbon was in Saudi Arabia when he was ousted as Head of State in 1985. According to him, Buhari informed him that Idiagbon declined the Saudi King’s offer to stay in the country for his safety.
According to Buhari, Idiagbon told him he was adamant about coming back to Nigeria and even said he was willing to stand trial and be executed with him (Buhari). Buhari almost always had tears in his eyes when he talked about this event, according to Gambari.
As Gambari puts it: He gave me the position while going into great detail about the things we accomplished in 1984 and 1985. He was referring to Idiagbon, who he received that kind of devotion from. After a coup that met him in Saudi Arabia, the king of Saudi Arabia offered him the opportunity to remain, but he replied, “No, I am going back to Nigeria because I don’t know what they might do to my president, but if they decide to try him and shoot him I want to be tried and shot along with him. ” Buhari was on the verge of sobbing anytime he brought it up, which was not just once.
