The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State is facing a fresh crisis, with two rival factions emerging ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The factions, led by Senator Barau Jibrin and former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, held parallel stakeholders’ meetings in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, exposing deep-seated divisions within the party .
The meetings, which were meant to promote unity, have instead highlighted the growing rivalry between the two leaders.
The Ganduje-led faction includes prominent party figures like Alhaji Sani Abubakar Mai Fata Sharada, while the Barau-led faction includes Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo and Malam Muhammad Ibrahim Kankarofi.
Analysts warn that if the factions are not reconciled, the APC’s chances in Kano could be weakened, providing an opportunity for opposition parties like the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to gain ground.
