Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that he and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu never had a personal relationship, and his support for Tinubu was based on party loyalty.
El-Rufai stated that his decision to reject a ministerial appointment from Tinubu was guided by their differing governance philosophies. He emphasized that he is committed to serving the public and delivering results, not enriching himself or appointing cronies ¹.
El-Rufai explained that his initial support for Tinubu’s presidential bid was motivated by political and regional considerations, not friendship.
He was approached by Islamic stakeholders from the South-West to support a South-West Muslim presidential candidate, and he supported Tinubu as the APC candidate.
The former governor also accused Tinubu of rejecting him as a ministerial nominee, stating that the President changed his mind despite publicly appealing to him to serve in his government.
El-Rufai questioned the security report used to reject his nomination, pointing out that other ministers with controversies were confirmed.
