Former Senator Shehu Sani has accused ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai of criticizing President Bola Tinubu out of personal frustration rather than genuine concern for democracy.
Sani stated that El-Rufai ignored democratic principles and human rights during his tenure, only championing them after leaving office.
He described El-Rufai’s administration as characterized by repression, insecurity, and deep division, leaving a troubling legacy.
Sani emphasized that El-Rufai’s criticism of Tinubu stems from unmet personal expectations, saying, “El-Rufai forgot democracy and human rights when he was in power and remembered them only when he left office.”
He warned Nigerians against embracing El-Rufai as a political alternative, calling it a “dangerous misjudgment” ².
Sani acknowledged Tinubu’s flaws but maintained that his record doesn’t compare to El-Rufai’s “years of tyranny” in Kaduna. He concluded, “In the barometer of record of service, history, character and morality, El-Rufai is an apprentice to Tinubu”.
