The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested 1,860 suspects and seized 5,409.814 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in Kano State between January and September 2026.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Media and Advocacy Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.
According to the statement, the suspects included 92 females, while the seized substances comprised cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, psychotropic substances and other illicit drugs.
It added that 89 convictions were secured within the period, with 126 new cases filed in court and 135 cases pending before the Federal High Court.
The Command said it also carried out about 1,700 counselling, treatment and rehabilitation interventions for persons affected by substance abuse, and conducted about 420 sensitisation programmes in schools and communities.
It attributed part of the success to Operation Restore Order, launched under the directive of NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), which led to the dismantling of about 35 drug joints and arrest of over 300 suspects.
The Command further revealed the discovery of underground tunnels and caves in Rimin Kebe area of Kano metropolis during Operation Sharar Mafaka, where drug dealers concealed and carried out illicit activities.
State Commander, CN DY Lawal, commended Marwa for his leadership and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to aid the fight against drug abuse.
