President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to sustain the annual Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, saying it will boost national unity, peace, and agricultural development.
The festival, which is over 83 years old, attracts thousands of fishermen, tourists, and culture lovers from across Nigeria and beyond.
Tinubu made this promise while speaking at the grand finale of the 61st edition of the festival in Argungu, Kebbi State.
He commended the organizers for sustaining the cultural celebration despite social and security challenges, saying it’s a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and peaceful coexistence.
However, there were reports of two people losing their lives, while one other is still in a coma over water diver competition, although. Medical Doctor attached to the event to oversee the heath measures told The Northern Star online, that 5 million naira dole out by the Minister of Economic Planing, and ex-governor Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu pledge 5 million for winner of water diver competition that triggered three(3) to sayed long inside water. All the three were declared winners with each to go home with 3.3 million naira with car wort 5 million doles out to them by the Governor Dr. Nasiru IdrisÂ
However, the Red Cross officials told THE NORTHERN STAR ONLINE that competitor timing for the competition were stage manage improper.
The president assured that his administration will continue to support farmers, fishermen, and rural communities, highlighting Kebbi’s strategic role in national food security.
