Rotimi Amaechi, a prominent Nigerian politician for Rivers Governor, has expressed concerns that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may struggle to win support in southern Nigeria if it fields a northern presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
He emphasized that while he will support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, the ADC must consider factors like capacity, age, and power rotation dynamics when choosing its flag bearer.
Amaechi, who is vying for the ADC presidential ticket, believes presenting a northern candidate could weaken the party’s appeal in the South, given the current power rotation arrangement.
He advocates for respecting the unwritten law of power rotation, currently favoring the South, to make it easier for southern politicians and voters to rally behind the party.
Amaechi, Abubakar Malami and Nasiru El-rufai sparked to defeated incumbent President through ADC creating vacuum. Even though, Atiku may want to maintain, he should remain the President Candidate 2027.
