“Citing Internal Crisis”
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Monday by Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni, who represented the governor at the Government House in Gusau.
Lawal’s defection is driven by the deepening internal crisis within the PDP and the need to build stronger unity to address Zamfara’s security and development challenges.
The move follows extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across the state, who advised the governor to align with the ruling party’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The defection increases the number of APC governors across the country to 31.
Lawal, who is expected to seek re-election in 2027, becomes one of the latest opposition governors to join the ruling party.
