The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has traced several high-value properties in Egypt to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial improprieties during his tenure.
The properties, reportedly worth billions of naira, include three villas and six apartments in upscale districts of Cairo, such as Arabella Estate, Banafsik Estate, and Oriana II Estate.
The ICPC is examining allegations of financial mismanagement and possible diversion of public funds tied to projects executed during El-Rufai’s tenure between 2015 and 2023.
El-Rufai has denied ownership of the properties, describing the allegations as politically motivated. His lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, has accused the ICPC of orchestrating a smear campaign and demanded his client’s immediate release or arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The investigation has sparked controversy, with some accusing the ICPC of selective justice and political persecution. El-Rufai has also sued the ICPC over alleged unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence and seizure of documents.
It will be recalled that EFCC arrested Nasiru on allegations a week as after, he was arrested by ICPC.
Our reporter of The Northern Star online revealed that El-rufai arrest has turned the controversial.
