Fresh tension has emerged in Kano State as the Assembly moves to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
The impeachment notice, signed by 38 lawmakers, accuses Gwarzo of diverting local government funds, receiving kickbacks, and facilitating unauthorized payments to a pharmaceutical company.
The allegations include receiving N1.5 million monthly from each of the 44 local government councils between June 2023 and January 2024, totaling N462 million, and additional payments of N3.255 million monthly from each council between February and July 2024, amounting to N726 million.
Gwarzo’s refusal to join Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly a factor in the impeachment proceedings.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has condemned the move as politically motivated, claiming Gwarzo acted within his official mandate.
