Public intellectual Ibrahim Ado Kurawa has called out former Kano governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for his perceived insincerity in comments on the Kano Emirship dispute.
Kurawa accused Ganduje of being contradictory in his stance, saying his remarks could be seen as meddling in a matter before the Supreme Court.
Kurawa questioned Ganduje’s earlier actions, asking why he presented his nephew for coronation before Muhammadu Sanusi II if he didn’t recognize him as Emir.
“The issue before the Supreme Court has nothing to do with who is the Emir of Kano,” Kurawa stated, urging Ganduje to avoid partisan remarks.
The Kano Emirship dispute has sparked intense debate, with various stakeholders weighing in on the matter. Ganduje’s comments have been seen as taking sides, prompting criticism from Kurawa and others.
Kurawa’s criticism highlights the need for caution and restraint in public statements, especially when matters are before the courts. Ganduje’s position as a former governor and influential figure adds weight to his words, making it crucial for him to avoid perceptions of bias.
By stepping back and allowing the legal process to unfold, Ganduje can maintain his reputation and avoid further controversy. As the Supreme Court prepares to rule on the matter, stakeholders await a resolution to the dispute.
