A newlywed woman identified as Innocent Serah has allegedly stabbed her husband, Innocent Nwaọjị, to death in Umuokereke Ngwa, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night, throwing residents of the community into shock.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing, including what may have triggered the incident, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
However, it was gathered that Nwaọjị was allegedly attacked while he was asleep.
A community member, David Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday, said the couple had been married for only about eight months.
According to him, the couple reportedly tied the knot in December 2025, and there had been no known disagreement between them before the incident.
“We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman had been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body had been deposited at a morgue,” he said.
The development has reportedly left members of the community wondering what could have led to the alleged attack, particularly as residents claimed they were unaware of any major dispute between the couple.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
When contacted, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said she would get back to journalists.
However, an official statement from the police was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report.
Police investigation is expected to determine the circumstances leading to the alleged stabbing and establish what transpired between the couple before the incident.
