Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has resolved the dispute over the Kano Central Senatorial ticket, clearing the way for former governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau to emerge as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC.
The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, following a reconciliation meeting in Abuja with aspirants and key stakeholders.
According to the statement, eight aspirants voluntarily withdrew their ambitions and agreed to support Shekarau as the party’s flagbearer for Kano Central.
Kano Central is Nigeria’s largest senatorial district, covering 15 local government areas with an estimated population of over 10 million people, making the outcome significant for the state’s politics.
Governor Yusuf commended the aspirants for prioritizing the collective interest of the people over personal ambition, describing their decision as a demonstration of maturity and commitment to democratic values.He said his administration would continue to promote dialogue, inclusion, and consensus-building as tools for political stability and development, and expressed confidence that the agreement would strengthen Kano’s influence at the national level.

Speaking for the aspirants, Usman Bala said the decision followed Yusuf’s intervention and their respect for Shekarau. Shekarau himself thanked the governor and the contenders for supporting him and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
