The Kebbi State Police Command, said that it has arrested Idrisu Musa, in connection with the murder of his elder brother Muhammed Haruna, and his wife Habiba Muhammed.
In a statement by the Command’s Image maker SP Bashir Usman and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi said the couples were attacked with a cutlass while as sleep in Asarara Village of Kimba District of Jega Local Government Area of the state and both of them died from their injuries.
According to the statement, substantial and implicating evidence has been recovered linking the suspect to the crime as the suspect had reportedly intimidated the couples with a cutlass on several prior occasions.
Family members and residents described the late Muhammad Haruna as a peaceful and quiet individual who was not known for conflicts or disputes within the community.
According to a local source, the incident has thrown the entire community into mourning, as neighbours and sympathizers gathered at the family house following the discovery of the killings.
The couples survived by six children, including four boys and two girls, who have now been left orphaned following the tragic incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently.
