The Presidency has dismissed reports that National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu resigned from his position, describing the claim as false and baseless.
A source from the State House said Ribadu remains in office and continues to enjoy the confidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he coordinates national security agencies and manages intelligence.
The clarification followed the appointment of retired Maj. Gen. Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security.
According to the source, the creation of the new office is part of President Tinubu’s plan to restructure the country’s security architecture to better respond to current challenges.
The Presidency stressed that the new office will work alongside the Office of the NSA and will not replace it. Famadewa previously served in the NSA’s office between 2015 and 2021, giving him direct experience with the system.
The office will focus on immigration, civil defense, transport security, and domestic intelligence gathering. The goal is to strengthen coordination in areas that affect internal security.
The source said Ribadu is still leading efforts to coordinate security agencies and oversee national intelligence, and urged Nigerians to disregard the resignation rumor.
The Presidency called on the public to avoid spreading unverified reports that could create confusion in the security sector, especially at a time when efforts are ongoing to end terrorism and armed violence.
