Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 elections. Dan’iya, a longtime political associate of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, expressed gratitude to party stakeholders, political leaders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him. ¹
Dan’iya’s emergence comes after a crucial meeting with other contenders, including Abdulsamad Dasuki, Ambassador Farouk Malami Yabo, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, and former Minister of Transport, Yusuf Suleiman. The meeting was likely aimed at resolving differences and selecting a strong candidate to represent the party in the upcoming elections.
In a statement, Dan’iya pledged his commitment to inclusive governance and development of Sokoto State, thanking Tambuwal for his guidance and support. He also urged supporters to remain peaceful and united as political consultations continue ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
The ADC had earlier attracted attention with Tambuwal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and leadership disagreements. Tambuwal’s move is seen as a significant boost to the ADC, and Dan’iya’s emergence is expected to strengthen the party’s chances in Sokoto State. ² ³
The 2027 elections are shaping up to be a closely contested affair, with several parties vying for power. The ADC’s decision to field Dan’iya will be closely watched, and his performance could have far-reaching implications for the party.
