The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly attempting to carry out ritual-related activities at the General Hospital in Funtua.
The suspect, identified as Sagir Muntari, was apprehended after hospital security raised an alarm over his suspicious movements within the premises on May 9, 2026, around 4:20 p.m.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, a hospital staff member noticed the unidentified man acting suspiciously and immediately informed the Chief Security Officer, who contacted the police.
Detectives deployed to the scene arrested the suspect before he could carry out any act, preventing what could have turned into a violent incident.
During preliminary interrogation, police said Muntari confessed to entering the hospital with the intention of obtaining the womb of a newborn baby for use in ritual and spiritual charm activities.
The command confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and public institutions, warning that anyone involved in ritual practices or other criminal acts would face the full weight of the law.
The incident has raised concern among residents of Funtua and hospital users, with many calling for tighter security around healthcare facilities, especially maternity wards and child care units.
