Fresh concerns over security in Oyo State have emerged following the abduction of family members of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Bayo Adelabu.
The victims, identified as Adelabu’s younger sister and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were reportedly kidnapped by armed men in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday morning.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred in the Elewura area of Challenge, within Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, as the family members were leaving their residence.
Confirming the development, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, said the victims were attacked while attempting to access the expressway.
“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro said.
“The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the kidnappers.”
The incident has sparked anxiety among residents and renewed calls for stronger security measures across the state.
The latest abduction comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in Oyo State. The state recently witnessed one of its most disturbing kidnapping incidents when more than 40 teachers and students were reportedly abducted during a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
With families increasingly becoming targets of criminal gangs, residents have urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure communities and ensure the safe return of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while efforts to rescue the abducted family members were reportedly ongoing.
