The wife of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, has been released by bandits, while her husband passed away in captivity due to complications from diabetes and hypertension. The retired General was abducted alongside his wife on May 30 while traveling through Katsina State.
The Katsina State Government confirmed General Abubakar’s death, stating that despite efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release, the situation ended in tragedy. The government described his death as a “tragic loss” to his family, Katsina State, and Nigeria.
General Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was a respected military officer who served the nation with distinction. His abduction and death have sparked widespread condemnation and calls for increased efforts to combat banditry and insecurity in Nigeria.
The government has vowed to work with security agencies to bring those responsible for General Abubakar’s abduction and death to justice. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a “dark moment” and urged a collective and intensified fight against criminal elements threatening communities.
The release of Hajiya Amina Abubakar brings some relief, but the circumstances surrounding General Abubakar’s death highlight the urgent need for improved security measures in Nigeria.
