Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has ascended into the top 10 of all-time FIFA World Cup goalscorers after netting twice in his team’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Tuesday evening.
The 41-year-old forward scored in the sixth and 39th minutes, bringing his World Cup tally to 10 goals and making history as the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments. This remarkable performance also allowed him to surpass the nine-goal World Cup record set by Portuguese legend Eusébio.
Currently, Lionel Messi holds the title of the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 18 goals, having eclipsed Germany’s Miroslav Klose earlier in the competition. France’s Kylian Mbappé follows closely behind as the second-highest active player with 16 goals, matching Klose’s previous record.
