The APC National Chairman has settled the Gombe Central Senatorial Contest, raising the hand of DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd) as the party’s candidate. This move has put to rest speculations and internal contestations surrounding the ticket.
The APC leadership described DCP Mohammed Ahmed as a tested administrator, grassroots mobilizer, and loyal party member whose emergence reflects the collective will of the party in Gombe Central. The National Chairman’s action is seen as a decisive move to unite the party ahead of the election.
However, the emergence of DCP Ahmed has been met with discontent from some party members, who allege that the process was flawed. Senator Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, has rejected the replacement of his candidacy with DCP Ahmed, citing violations of the Electoral Act.
Meanwhile, the PDP in Gombe State is experiencing its own crisis, with two rival governorship candidates emerging from opposing factions of the party. Mohammed Ahmed Yayari and Prof. Isa Ali Pantami are both claiming to be the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship race ¹.
The APC is confident of victory in the forthcoming local government elections, with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressing optimism that the party will record a sweeping victory. The party has presented flags to its chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the state.
The APC’s confidence is boosted by its strong representation in the state, currently occupying all 24 seats allocated to Gombe in the House of Representatives. The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, has lauded Governor Yahaya for his remarkable achievements in infrastructure, education, and social development.
The APC is preparing for the 2027 elections, with the National Chairman urging party members to remain united and committed to serving the people. The party’s focus is on sustainable development and good governance, with the Renewed Hope Agenda driving its policies.
