Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has assured the Federal Government of the state’s full support and cooperation towards the successful hosting of the commissioning and flag-off ceremony of the 420-kilometre Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Yobe States Highway Reconstruction Project.
The 420km Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe road project will be commissioned next month in Akwanga. Governor Sule gave the assurance on Wednesday during a high-level planning meeting with the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, at the minister’s office in Mabushi, Abuja.
The meeting is coming preparatory to the commissioning of major road and bridge projects in Nasarawa State and adjoining states, an event expected to attract the President, the Vice President, governors, members of the National Assembly and other dignitaries.
The Governor commended the Federal Government for its sustained investment in road infrastructure within Nasarawa State, noting that the ongoing reconstruction of the Akwanga–Jos corridor and related highways would significantly improve transportation, boost commerce and strengthen regional connectivity for the state and its neighbours.
He said the project forms part of the substantial road network already developed within the state, including dualised highways and bridges that have continued to open up Nasarawa State to greater economic activity.
The Governor directed relevant state officials, including representatives of the state Ministry of Works and local government authorities, to immediately commence joint planning sessions with the Federal Ministry of Works to finalise logistics, budgeting and other operational requirements ahead of the ceremony.
Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government to ensure the timely completion and commissioning of the project, describing it as a vital component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for economic growth, job creation and national development.
He expressed confidence that the event, when it eventually takes place, would be hosted successfully in Nasarawa State and would mark another major milestone in the state’s growing partnership with the Federal Government on infrastructure.
In his remarks, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, commended Governor Sule and the Nasarawa State Government for their continued support of Federal Government infrastructure initiatives, and called for sustained cooperation between both governments to accelerate development across the region.
He disclosed that a broad-based planning committee, comprising representatives of the Federal Ministry of Works, the Nasarawa State Government and other stakeholders, has been constituted to coordinate the event, which will feature live media coverage, cultural displays and an official brochure documenting achievements along the project corridor.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. The road will also improve access to social services, such as healthcare and education, for communities along the route.
The commissioning ceremony will be a major event, with several dignitaries expected to attend, including the President and Vice President. The event will mark a significant milestone in the development of Nasarawa State and the region.
The Governor’s assurance of support is seen as a positive development, demonstrating the state’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to drive economic growth and development.
The project is part of a larger initiative to improve the country’s road network, which is seen as critical to Nigeria’s economic development. The Federal Government has made significant investments in road infrastructure in recent years, and this project is a testament to its commitment to improving the country’s transportation sector.
The Akwanga-Gombe highway project is expected to be completed in the coming months, and the commissioning ceremony will mark the culmination of years of planning and hard work.
