The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 11 local government chairmanship seats in Gombe State, Nigeria. The elections, conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), were reportedly peaceful with impressive turnout.
According to reports, the APC candidates won unopposed in Kaltungo and Shongom local government areas. The party’s candidates also secured victories in the remaining nine local government areas, including Gombe, Akko, and Balanga.
The winners of the local government chairmanship seats include Sani Haruna (Gombe), Dr. Ahmed Doho (Kwami), and Iliya Suleiman (Kaltungo). The APC also won all 114 councillorship seats in the state.
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, congratulated the APC candidates on their victory and urged them to serve the people with dedication. He also commended the electoral commission and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful election ⁴.
The election was contested by five political parties, including the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party (YPP).
In a statement, the GOSIEC chairman, Saidu Shehu Awak, said the election was conducted in accordance with the law and that the results reflected the will of the people.
The APC’s victory in Gombe is seen as a consolidation of the party’s dominance in the state. The party has been in power in Gombe since 2011.
