The media team of APC governorship candidate, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, has called on the management of Gombe State Specialist Hospital to launch a full investigation into allegations that a nursing mother’s kidney went missing after surgery.
In a statement signed by co-media aides Ibrahim Shawai and Mahmoud Muhammad and made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday, the team described the hospital management’s handling of the matter as “negligent” and said a thorough probe is needed to protect the woman’s rights.
The case involves Barira Alhassan, who claimed that following an emergency Caesarean section at the hospital on April 8, 2026, a post-surgery examination indicated she had only one kidney. The hospital has denied removing any kidney during the procedure.
The statement quoted Dr. Gwamna as pledging that “such incidents will not be tolerated under his watch.” It added that while the victim is currently under the care of the state government, the matter concerns public health and must be addressed transparently.
The team said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya should be seen as having responsibility for the outcome, noting that “his failure is also our failure and his measures should be seen as our measures.” It added that both leaders would work to ensure the woman’s right is pursued with decorum.
The media team appealed to Barira’s family to remain calm and patient while the matter is investigated. It said any hospital official found wanting would face disciplinary action in line with due process.
Barira’s relatives had earlier asked the Gombe State Ministry of Health for an independent investigation, citing pre-surgery scans from 2015 that showed two kidneys and post-surgery scans that indicated one. The hospital maintains no wrongdoing occurred.
The APC campaign said the case underscores the need for stronger oversight, medical record transparency, and patient safety protocols in public hospitals. It urged health authorities to act swiftly to restore public confidence.
