A delegation of Northern Christian leaders has visited the family of a woman who was lynched in Northern Nigeria over allegations of blasphemy. The leaders described the killing as barbaric and against both law and faith.
Speaking during the visit, the leaders condemned mob action and called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those involved in the killing. They said no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
The delegation prayed with the family and offered support. They assured the relatives that the Christian community in the North stands with them and will follow the case to ensure justice is served.
The leaders said the rise in jungle justice and extrajudicial killings is dangerous for national unity. They urged government at all levels to protect citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity.
They appealed to religious leaders, traditional rulers and civil society groups to preach tolerance, dialogue and the rule of law instead of violence and mob attacks.
The delegation called on state and federal governments to strengthen security and ensure that perpetrators of mob killings are made to face the law, to serve as deterrent to others.
The Christian leaders stressed that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength, not division. They said Muslims and Christians in the North have lived together for years and must not allow violence to destroy that bond.
Members of the deceased’s family thanked the leaders for the visit and solidarity. They asked government to ensure a transparent investigation so that those responsible do not go unpunished.
