In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the Forum said Northern Nigeria’s security crisis demands urgent, coordinated, and decisive action to rescue the region from collapse. It reaffirmed support for federal security efforts led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing and community resilience.
The Forum acknowledged progress made towards the establishment of State Police. It commended the President and the National Assembly for initiating the constitutional processes and reaffirmed that, with adequate training, equipment and support, State Police will play a pivotal role in tackling insecurity nationwide.
The leaders expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund. They described the trustees as distinguished individuals with experience, integrity and patriotism, and urged them to discharge their duties with diligence, independence and fairness.
The Forum commended member states for redeeming their commitment to contribute One Billion Naira monthly to the Security Trust Fund. It urged all states to honour pledges promptly and called on traditional rulers, civil society, the media and citizens to support the Board in fulfilling its mandate.
The Forum resolved to intensify efforts against the root causes of insecurity. It noted that poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and the high number of out-of-school children fuel instability, and stressed that security operations must be reinforced with investment in education, agriculture, youth empowerment and skills development.
As the rainy season progresses, the Forum urged governments and security agencies to safeguard farmers affected by insecurity and community tensions. It resolved to work with traditional institutions and local governments to prevent conflicts, while supporting livestock transformation and initiatives that foster coexistence and modernise agriculture.
The Forum also resolved to extend its collaborative approach to key development areas including education, agriculture and healthcare. It said a unified framework will be developed to coordinate efforts, drive innovation and ensure lasting impact across the region. The meeting adjourned to reconvene on a date to be announced later.
