Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has relieved six commissioners of their appointments in what the government described as a minor cabinet reshuffle. The decision was announced on Thursday and takes immediate effect.
According to a statement from Government House in Lafia, the reshuffle is part of efforts to reposition the administration for improved service delivery. The governor said the changes are necessary to strengthen governance and ensure that key ministries align with the priorities of his second term.
The statement noted that the affected commissioners were relieved to create room for a more focused and result-oriented cabinet. It added that the move was not a reflection of poor performance alone, but part of a broader strategy to inject new energy into government operations.
The government did not immediately release the names of the six commissioners or the specific ministries involved. Officials said a full list and details on redeployments will be communicated in due course.
Political observers in Lafia described the action as expected, given that the administration is approaching the midpoint of its current tenure. They noted that minor reshuffles are common as governors seek to balance political considerations with the need for efficiency.
Sources within the State Executive Council said the governor has been reviewing the performance of ministries in areas such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. The aim, they said, is to ensure that appointees are delivering on the administration’s development agenda.
This is the first major cabinet adjustment by Governor Sule since the inauguration of his second term. During his first term, he carried out two similar realignments aimed at consolidating key programs across the state.
With the vacancies now created, attention has shifted to who will be nominated as replacements. The governor is expected to forward new nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in the coming weeks.
As the administration continues to push projects in road construction, rural development, and economic diversification, Government House said the reshuffle will help the state meet its targets before 2027. The governor urged citizens to remain patient and supportive as the new team settles in to deliver on campaign promises.
