The New Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has constituted a committee to investigate the authenticity of the academic credentials of its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam. The move comes amid public questions over the documents submitted by the candidate ahead of the election.
Siyasarmu TV reported that the disclosure was made by the party’s North-West zonal chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Rabi’u Sabo Bakinzuwo. He spoke during an interview with Ɗan’uwa Rano TV, where he addressed concerns raised about the candidate’s qualifications.
According to Bakinzuwo, the primary mandate of the committee is to verify that all academic documents presented by Comrade Abdussalam are genuine. He explained that the verification is a proactive measure to prevent any legal or political complications that could emerge later in the campaign process.
The zonal chairman stressed that the NDC is committed to transparency. He said the decision reflects the party’s broader effort to uphold truth and follow due process in all its internal preparations and candidate selection procedures.
“We do not want any issues that will distract us or the candidate in the future,” Bakinzuwo stated. “This committee will do a thorough job and ensure that everything is in order before we proceed further.”
The development follows allegations made earlier by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Shehu Yusuf Kura. Kura claimed there were inconsistencies in the academic records made public by Comrade Abdussalam.
Specifically, Kura alleged that the date indicated on the candidate’s Diploma certificate from a Polytechnic does not align with the year the institution was established. The NDC says its committee will examine that claim and other related documents to determine their validity.
