The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the executive chairmen of Bebeji, Bagwai, and Rogo Local Government Areas for three months over allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office, procurement irregularities, and breach of public trust.
The resolution was announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The decision followed the unanimous adoption of an investigative report presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ali Muhammad.
The committee launched the investigation after receiving formal petitions from local legislative councils and concerned citizen groups across the three affected local government areas.
For Bagwai LGA, investigators established evidence of alleged diversion and misappropriation of public funds earmarked for key development projects within the council.
In Bebeji LGA, the committee uncovered persistent non-compliance with procurement regulations, unauthorized sales of local government land, unlawful deductions from contract sums, and alleged coercion of contractors into remitting payments into private accounts linked to the council chairman.
For Rogo LGA, the chairman was cited for administrative infractions, policy violations, and alleged diversion of public funds allocated for rural feeder road construction and electrification projects serving the Unguwar Dawa and Hausawa Fulani communities.
“The action of the House is backed by Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), alongside Section 14 of the Kano State Local Government Law, 2006,” Speaker Falgore affirmed during the plenary.
To prevent leadership vacuums, the House directed the vice chairmen of Bebeji, Bagwai, and Rogo LGAs to immediately assume office as acting chairmen. The Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has also been mandated to submit a comprehensive final report with recommendations within ten weeks.
