Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, says 25 passengers and seven crew members were aboard the military aircraft that crashed in Ondo State on Monday. 6c13
The aircraft crashed close to the naval base in Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area, with the Nigerian Air Force confirming ownership and saying it was on a routine mission from Lagos to Benin, Edo State capital.
The Air Force said search and rescue operations in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies are ongoing.
Executive Chairman of Ilaje LGA, Maurice Oripelaye, and the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting the aircraft burnt to rubble in swampy terrain opposite the Naval Base.
Rescue teams and security personnel have been mobilized to the crash site as authorities urge residents to remain calm and await official updates.
