In his recent interview on ARISE News, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal explained that the U.S. airstrike in Jabo (Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto) was carried out in collaboration with Nigerian security forces and targeted the Lakurawa terrorist enclave in the Tangeza area.
He stressed that the operation was aimed at “criminal and terrorist elements, not innocent civilians,” and urged residents to stay calm and avoid politicising or giving the strike a religious spin.
Tambuwal also recalled that during his tenure as governor, his administration had already conducted joint operations with the DSS, Army and other agencies against Lakurawa, which had been effective in pushing the group back.
He added that while the U.S. involvement might raise mixed feelings, Nigeria should accept genuine assistance without hidden agendas, and he called for unity and continued cooperation with security agencies to ensure lasting peace. In a follow‑up X post, he reiterated his call for calm, promised to obtain full details from the authorities, and praised the professionalism of the Nigerian military.
Overall, Tambuwal’s message was: the strike was a targeted counter‑terrorism operation, there’s no religious or ethnic motive, and the focus should be on supporting security efforts and keeping the community safe.
