President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), subject to Senate approval.
Yusuf, a seasoned diplomat, previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
He replaces Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, who resigned citing personal reasons after 14 months in office, he was triggered to resign following petition by the Board claiming awarding contract without the board approval.
Meanwhile, the new appointment is in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006, and President Tinubu has requested the Senate’s expedited confirmation of Yusuf.
This move aims to stabilize leadership at NAHCON, ensuring continuity in preparations for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
