A new opposition coalition codenamed G-100 has emerged to mobilize against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group, which describes itself as 100 opposition stalwarts, convened its inaugural summit on August 31, 2026 in Abuja under the coordination of Salihu Mohammed Lukman.
Leading opposition parties present include ADC, SDP, APM, PRP, NDC, DLA and the Turaki-led PDP faction, with plans to expand to more parties.
The mission of the coalition, according to its communique, is to create a united all-opposition platform to challenge and defeat President Tinubu and the APC at the polls.
It said the movement was necessitated by what it called Nigerians groaning under economic hardship, skyrocketing poverty, hunger and rising insecurity.
The coalition anchored its philosophy on transparency, equality, justice, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism to produce credible leadership.
It has set up a Central Leadership Committee and five Working Groups on strategy, publicity, legal, mobilization and candidate selection, to submit nominees by mid-September.
Chants at its gatherings include “Rescue and Rebuild Nigeria!”, “Tinubu Must Go!”, “United We Stand for New Nigeria!”
The G-100 said it will reconvene on September 23, 2026 to finalize modalities for a consensus presidential candidate and joint campaign structure.
