Evans was arrested on June 10, 2017, in a joint operation by the Nigerian Police and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos. He was caught with ₦1.2 million ransom money and a cache of weapons.
The arrest followed a tip-off, and Evans was tracked to a hideout in Magodo, Lagos, where he was nabbed with his accomplices. He later confessed to being a kidnapper and revealed the whereabouts of his other associates.
