US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by sharing an AI-generated image portraying himself as Jesus Christ on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The image shows Trump in a Christ-like pose, with glowing light and symbolic elements commonly associated with Christian art, including a healing scene where he appears to lay hands on a man.
This development comes amid a heated feud between Trump and Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff.
Trump has criticized the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”, particularly regarding Iran and Venezuela.
The Pope had previously urged peace and warned against a “delusion of omnipotence” fueling global conflicts.
Trump’s supporters argue the image is satirical or symbolic, while critics see it as inappropriate and disrespectful to Christian beliefs.
The incident highlights the growing use of AI-generated visuals in politics and the blurring of lines between humor and offense.
The Pope has pushed back against Trump’s criticism, emphasizing his appeals for peace are rooted in the Gospel. Trump claims the Pope’s position is influenced by politics and that he’s not doing a good job.
The controversy underscores the strained relationship between Trump and the Vatican, with disagreements over issues like migration, global conflicts, and US foreign policy.
