The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a committee to combat drug abuse and signed a law to curb social vices in the state. The governor stated that drug abuse is a major threat to Kano’s youth, leading to serious crimes, family breakdown, economic instability, and social unrest.
The committee will focus on data collection, public awareness, law enforcement, rehabilitation, and collaboration with security agencies and stakeholders to address the issue. Governor Abba assured the committee of sufficient funding, vehicles, offices, equipment, and security support to carry out its duties.
The governor also announced plans to expand rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, with separate facilities for men and women. The chairman of the committee, Barrista Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, pledged to work transparently and effectively with security agencies, traditional leaders, scholars, civil society groups, and community leaders to combat drug abuse and ensure peace in Kano.
The governor called on the public to provide accurate information and cooperate with security agencies to succeed in the fight against drug abuse and social vices.
